# Choiseul 3D village and waterfront study

**Caption:** Choiseul village and working waterfront. Original illustrative 3D study; not to scale. Shoreline, selected roof locations and landmark relationships follow inspected references. Building detail, vegetation, terrain heights and water appearance are interpreted. This is not a survey, engineering, bathymetric or hazard model.

## Evidence inspected

- **HAZAMA ANDO, The Project for the Improvement of Choiseul Fishing Port.** https://www.ad-hzm.co.jp/english/works/global/0268.php . Project page states completion in 2024. Gallery photographs 01–03 were downloaded and visually inspected. They confirm the compact waterfront basin, existing outer arm, inner north arm and separate northern groin; rows of fishing buildings; green church roof; detached square belfry south of the nave. File paths indicate March 2025 publication. No dimensional or current operability claim is inferred from the photographs.
- **JICA, Basic Design Study Report on the Project for Coastal Fisheries Development in Saint Lucia (January 2001).** https://openjicareport.jica.go.jp/pdf/11641230_01.pdf . PDF page 143, printed page 2-111, figure 2.3-20, General Layout Plan at Choiseul, visually inspected. Provides original basin/frontage/port-building/church relationships. Historical plan, not a current as-built drawing.
- **Esri ArcGIS World Imagery.** https://server.arcgisonline.com/ArcGIS/rest/services/World_Imagery/MapServer . Reference-only mosaic, zoom 17, tile columns 43306–43310 and rows 60469–60473, fetched September 2026. Imagery capture date unverified. Used to select shoreline control points, road curves and representative roof centers. The photographed basin contains sediment, so it was not treated as a depiction of current navigability. Esri/source-provider imagery is not embedded in output, GLB or source package.
- **Waterfront ground photograph, Alamy image 2WMCT4Y.** https://www.alamy.com/stock-photo/choiseul-lucia.html . Watermarked preview inspected, not reused. Confirms church roof, detached belfry and steep coastal context. It is excluded from the delivered source package.
- **Saint Lucia Tourism Authority, Choiseul, the Cradle of Craft (20 April 2020).** https://stlucia.org/en/blog/choiseul-the-cradle-of-craft/ . Establishes distinction between village Catholic church and the Anglican church at River Dorée. Its photographs were inspected to avoid confusing the two. No SLTA photographs are embedded in the deliverable.
- **JICA grant agreement, 11 November 2022.** https://www.jica.go.jp/english/news/press/2022/20221111_41.html . Project's provisional dimensions are not represented as measured as-built geometry. Submerged improvements and dredging extents are omitted.

## Factual limits

The village is represented by selected observed roof centers and simplified generic building shapes. The church nave and detached belfry are interpretive meshes, not architectural replicas. The road geometry is a selective interpretation of aerial alignments. Relief is an analytic artistic surface informed by the observed coastal hills and cliffs, not elevation data. Vegetation positions are generalized. Boats are illustrative, stationary examples and do not represent a fleet count. Water colors do not encode depth, erosion, flood risk or sediment transport. The crop is a small village-and-waterfront section, not the electoral constituency or entire district.

## Reuse

Original model geometry, rendering code, poster and animation were created for this project. No third-party photograph, map tile, satellite texture or generated bitmap was used in rendering. Research image downloads are excluded from the source zip. Three.js r160 library is redistributed under the MIT license; see THREE-LICENSE.txt. Source refers to external evidence via links and factual observations. No third-party photograph reuse rights are claimed.

## Reproduction

The scene has actual three-dimensional terrain, roofs, walls, trees, fishing boats, church and port structures. Each MP4 frame is rendered by changing a 3D orthographic camera and rerasterizing the triangle mesh with a depth buffer and directional shadow map. It is not a 2D pan, zoom or CSS animation.

Run `node export-mesh.cjs`, then `g++ -O3 -o render render.cpp`. Run `./render` for the uncompressed poster. `./render 240 raw 1600 | ffmpeg -f rawvideo -pix_fmt rgb24 -s 1600x1000 -r 24 -i - -an -c:v libx264 -threads 4 -preset fast -crf 21 -pix_fmt yuv420p -movflags +faststart choiseul-3d-orbit.mp4` reproduces the silent ten-second loop. Its closed sinusoidal camera path is continuous across the loop boundary. The actual view angle changes by approximately 12.6 degrees peak-to-peak.

For the standalone browser preview, serve this directory over HTTP and open `index.html`. Motion starts paused; playback is opt-in and can be paused. A reduced-motion change pauses playback. Root integration should show the static poster and native play/pause controls, starting paused for reduced motion.
